Congratulations! You have entered the second trimester – a time of relative comfort for most of the women. Relax and enjoy, because the most beautiful period of pregnancy is ahead of you. The majority of unpleasant symptoms have passed, or they will pass soon; your belly is not too big yet, and you feel perfect. The womb has come out of the small pelvis and is still increasing, which you can physically notice as a “small stomach.”
Your breasts may start producing colostrum – the first milk, although your labor is far away.
The face of the fetus is more and more alike to the face of a real baby because the eyes are getting to the middle of the face, and the ears move to the usual places. The head appears to be 1/3 of its body length. When the baby is born, its head is about 1/4 of the length of the whole body. The intestines move even deeper into the body; the liver starts to make the bile and the pancreas to produce insulin. The length of the baby from the crown to the end of the spine is 3 inches, and it weighs about 0,066 pounds.

Although you may think that since the baby development ended, you are now allowed to eat according to your cravings now, it is not our advice. The Institute of Medicine gave a recommendation about the diet during the pregnancy. According to them, in the first trimester you don’t need to increase a calorie intake at all; in the second trimester you can increase it for the 340 extra calories a day, and in the third trimester for the 450 extra calories per day.
You also need to know that the main nutrients that you must provide to your baby are: proteins, calcium, and iron.
