24 Weeks Pregnant – Pregnancy Week by Week

Your pregnancy

This is the period when you gain up to pound per week, but it does not necessarily mean that it will be like that every week. Your womb is now about two inches above the navel. Your legs are likely to hurt you more than before, especially if you are still working and if you have to stand a lot. You may have noticed that there are some enlarged veins that can be extremely painful. This problem can be solved with special socks for varicose veins that will tighten your legs and relieve the pain.

Baby development

The child’s body continues to fill up with the fat tissue. Now you can feel when the baby is awake, and when asleep. It has already established its rhythm of behavior which will probably continue after the delivery. The mouth and the lips become more and more sensitive, and the eyes react to a steady source of light if it rushes into the stomach. Moreover, the nostrils begin to open, and the reflexes are also improving.

The length of the baby is now 12 inches, and it weighs over a pound.

At the doctor’s

Between the 24th and the 28th week, the doctor may ask for a glucose screening test, also called glucose challenge test (GCT). It checks for gestational diabetes. If your result is positive, it still doesn’t mean you have diabetes. It just means that you’ll have to obtain a glucose tolerance test (oGTT), which will determine it for sure.

Tip for this week

It’s a good time to consider how to arrange your baby’s room. Most women are aware of the baby’s gender at this moment which makes it easier to choose colors for the walls and the furniture. It is our advice not to make it crowdy in the room. Take in just the necessary things, and let it be airy and colorful.
